Lake Tekapo in Summer – Lupin flowers!

I am more than you think I am. — Photo taken at Lake Tekapo, South Island, New Zealand

Lake Tekapo is my most favourite place in New Zealand. Summer is an excellent season to visit Lake Tekapo because the beautiful lupin flowers are everywhere. I love lupin flowers despite the fact that they are wild flowers (and we are not allowed to bring the seed of flowers out of Tekapo). It is best to visit Lake Tekapo in early December, as we visited on 31 December and the flowers are dying.

We climbed Mt John. It is an easy walking track which takes only an hour. I felt tired because I do not often do exercise. The lunch at Astro Café is a big motivation for me to move on, because the kitchen will be closed at 3.30pm so we need to be quick (the café itself is closed at 6pm). I can do anything for foods! 🙂

We are lucky because the weather is good when we are at the top of the mountain. The view is stunning and amazing! The lake is very blue; such a beautiful view seems unreal at all, isn’t it?

Astro Café is a famous café in Lake Tekapo, situated on top of Mt John. It is glass-walled with 360 degree view, so you can enjoy the foods and the spectacular view at the same time. Astro Café is highly recommended by Lonely Planet as ‘quite possibly one of the planet’s best locations for a café’. Having a meal here is relaxing and satisfying!

The next destination is Church of the Good Shepherd. It is a place that cannot be missed in Lake Tekapo! My friend laughed when he saw the church, as he did not expect that it is such a small church, hahaha. 🙂 For me, this church is extremely lovely and romantic. I wish I could make a promise to an important person here one day.

Coincidentally it is New Year today. It is now in year 2015! Time flies. I have been to Lake Tekapo for three times in these two years, and I still love this place very much. We countdown to New Year 2015 and celebrated in the hostel, it is a great fun! Please pay attention to our eyebrow 😛

I made a wish for myself this year!

Hi, Great Post. Is there any place to celebrate new years eve in Tekapo with DJ, fireworks etc?

Thanks Mira 🙂 Not really, its pretty quiet in Tekapo. Not much going on there.
We countdown at the backpackers hostel, it was quite fun though there were not many people.. If your luck is good you might even gaze at stars at night, as Tekapo is known as one of the best spots in the world for stargazing; this will definitely make your new year eve memorable! 🙂
But if you prefer a busy and more lively environment, then i think this is not a place for you
