Lake Tekapo is located in the middle part of South Island, New Zealand. It is a very peaceful and beautiful place with only a small population. The views of Lake Tekapo are very different in the summer and winter – I love it in both of these seasons!
Although winter is not a popular season to go to Lake Tekapo, it is still stunning and worth a visit. In summer, you can see a lot of beautiful lupine flower in Lake Tekapo. In winter, you can enjoy the romantic and quiet scenery that is so special.
First day – snowing in Lake Tekapo ☃️
We planned our trip last minute because we wanted to see snowing Lake Tekapo, and it was a good decision! We are able to see the snow and it is so lovely…
It is enjoyable to see the snow falling from the sky. My friend made a Love for me, I felt very happy although it looks a bit faulty. 😂
Church of the Good Shepherd
One of the popular attractions in Lake Tekapo is Church of the Good Shepherd. It is a very small church with a lot of tourists (so please do not come during peak hours!). I love this church very much. It is also a popular choice for a wedding venue. I think it is extremely romantic if someone makes a promise to me at this place.
It is freezing cold!! After a while, we lost the mood to enjoy the scenery because we cannot even hold the camera properly. My fingers and toes are numb and then feel painful. In hindsight, we should bring gloves!
A sunny day in the winter in Lake Tekapo
The second day of my trip is a sunny day and it is another scenery. The lake is very blue and the field is largely covered by white snow. The snowy mountain looks perfect with the clear sky. How can I not be in love with this place?
I really love Lake Tekapo. In my opinion, Lake Tekapo is the most beautiful and romantic place in New Zealand. It is a small and lovely village where you can empty your mind and soul, as you will be immersed in the beautiful natural scenery. It’s a very special place.
We come to this church again, but there are too many tourists so it is hard to take photos today. If you are coming in the weekend, please make sure you visit the church in the early morning or late evening to avoid ‘traffic jam’!

Lake Tekapo is really beautiful. I had a wonderful time in Lake Tekapo although it is a very short trip. I really wish I could stay longer – just walking around in here and do not think about anything else. Isn’t this a happiness in life?
If you want a unique travel experience in New Zealand, come to Lake Tekapo in winter. 🙂
