Melbourne – A lively city

Melbourne is a very big and busy city with a population of more than 4 million people. It is never short of foods, people, noise, shopping centres and entertainments. Surprisingly, there are a lot of Asian in Melbourne, especially Chinese! I can hear people speaking Cantonese and Mandarin at anywhere and anytime.

Melbourne City Centre

I did not join any tour or having any specific destination in Melbourne. Instead, I walked around in Melbourne on my own and I think this is relaxing!

Centre Places

I had a very good time in Centre Places, Melbourne CBD. It is a street with many small shops and foods. I walked through the street randomly and loved it.

I bought a hot cheese ham croissant – it was very delicious. I also enjoyed the music performed by a guy – he sings really well! It is best to go to Central Places in the early afternoon because some of the shops are closed when I come back in the evening.

Hosier Lane

Another good place that I would recommend is Hosier Lane which I like very much. It is a popular spot in Melbourne. The painted walls are interesting! Some paintings are funny and some are sexy. I truly appreciate and admire the people who contribute to the drawings.

My friend gave me a tripod before she left New Zealand. I kept reminding myself that I must bring the tripod for this trip, but I still forgot! Haih! What can I do other than taking selfie since I am travelling alone? >.<

Once I heard a statement: Travelling is about going to a place where locals are bored. Well, I disagree. For me, every city is a world. If I never explore other cities, our world will never intercept each other. It is interesting to know how others live in different part of the world, isn’t it? 🙂

Free City Circle Tram

One of the best things to do in Melbourne is to take City Circle Tram. It is a free tram taking you to a few popular tourist spots in Melbourne city so that you get a ‘feel’ of how does it look like. If you enjoyed it, you can purchase a Myki card from any convenient store in order to take tram or train to anywhere. The public transportation in Melbourne is convenient!

Something happens when I want to take the City Circle Tram. When I get into the tram, I found that people are using their Myki card to pay for the ticket. I was curious because I thought it should be free!? So I asked around, and the girl gave me with a very strange look.
“Isn’t this the free city circle tram?
“No, this is going to xxx”
Oh my god… it is so embarrassing! Trust me, I didn’t mean to take a ride without paying money! I just took a wrong tram… I immediately get off the tram and wait for the free City Circle Tram. >.<

Queen Victoria Market

Although there are many shopping centres in Melbourne, the place that attracts me the most is Queen Victoria Market. There are too many choices and things are cheaper (I heard that you can bargain for an even cheaper price). It is best to go to Queen Victoria Market on the weekend because there are more shops. I bought a few clothes and souvenirs for my family.

Federation Square

I like to stop in Federation Square because of the free Wi-fi. I kept reminding myself not to be addicted in the online world, but it is important to let my family know my whereabouts because I am travelling alone. Besides, Federation Square is a place with a lot of people and family so that I don’t feel lonely.

Active nightlife

There was a big festival during my visit in Melbourne. It is a very good opportunity to explore the city, but the problem is, I feel very tired after 8 pm. I realised I have jet lag. I usually sleep at 10pm++ (if not working late) in New Zealand, and 8 pm Australia time = 10 pm NZ time. Well, people enjoy their time at night but it is my bedtime, what a shame. >.<

My 4 days 3 nights Melbourne trip has come to an end. In my opinion, Melbourne is an attractive city with many opportunities and entertainments. It makes people less lonely because of the noise and entertainment. But perhaps, it makes some people even lonelier because it reminds that you are all by yourself in this busy city.
