A day in Montmartre, Paris

Montmartre is a large hill in Central Paris. It is a beautiful area with characteristic shops (including sex shops), great sights, stunning Sacré-Cœur, good wine and food. It is a wonderful experience to spend a day wandering in the neighbourhood of Montmartre.

This is my second visit to Paris. A few months ago, I visited many popular attractions in Paris but I wanted to do something different this time. A friendly Brazilian gal that I met in London (who is now studying in Paris) recommended Montmartre. So, here I am. 🙂

Free Walking Tour – former Red Light District

I joined the free walking tour to get to know this place better. When I first arrived in Montmartre, I saw many sex shops and theatre… I wondered what this place was about!

And then, my tour guide told us that Montmartre is the former Red Light District. 😱 Fortunately, it is very safe just like other places in Paris. The tour guide was funny and informative and I made a few friends here.

The street is just lovely and beautiful. I could spend a whole day wandering around in this area. Spending time at one of the restaurants or cafés here is very relaxing! 🙂

Moulin Rouge

The Moulin Rouge is a famous cabaret in Montmartre. It is one of the top things to do in here according to TripAdvisor.

Ben and I were deciding if we should watch the show at Moulin Rouge or Crazy Horse. Finally, we decided to go to Crazy Horse although Moulin Rouge had a higher ranking on TripAdvisor.

The food and drink

The are many shops here, but the one that caught our attention was this bakery shop. My tour guide recommended the fruit pie here, so I gave it a try.

And this is literally the most delicious fruit pie that I have had in my life…!! I felt regret that I did not have more of them. By the way, I also bought a bottle of wine for below €4! In Montmartre, you can get good food and drink for a lower price. 🙂

Sacré-Cœur

You can’t come to Montmartre without visiting Sacré-Cœur! It is the basilica located at the summit of Montmartre. The best view is the back left-hand side of the basilica, where you will find a beautiful garden with a stunning view of the basilica like the photo below.

The front view is great too but a bit too crowded. We did not pay to go inside the Sacré-Cœur.

Art Market

My friend (male) asked a stranger about the direction of the Art Market because we couldn’t found it. The stranger replied him that if he wanted to see the naked women then he should go to one of the cabarets in Montmartre. My friend was speechless. 😂

We found the Art Market in the end. It is an interesting place but is a bit overpriced. Perhaps we can’t define the art with money!

Dine in the restaurant with great view

I had a dinner at Le Pot-Potin de L’Été because it was recommended by my tour guide. To be honest, the food was so-so only. But it was a beautiful restaurant with colourful decorations, so I quite enjoyed my time here.

I went here early so the restaurant was empty. Also, most of the people prefer to sit outside but I felt warmer inside. I was the only person sitting inside the restaurant!

I had a lamb chop for €18.50 (special deal). Not cheap but it was time to treat myself!

Oh yes, one thing about the restaurant in Montmartre: Some of them have very slow service, and I have experienced it. This is because they are more relaxed and laid-back. So, don’t take it too seriously and just enjoy the moment. 🙂

Overall, I had a great day in Montmartre! ❤️
