Red Rock Day

Red Rock is one of the remarkable reserves in Wellington. It is a 40 – 50 minute coastal walk (one way) starting from Owhiro Bay to the Red Rock. If you walk further along the coast, which takes about 15 minutes, you will see the seals (from May to October only).

I parked my car in Owhiro Bay – a place with beautiful blue sea. This is the starting point of the walk. The weather is sunny, however it is very cold as the wind is strong.

Before I began the walk, I realised that there are many hazards on the coast! I was thinking if I should turn back, but in the end I decided to move on.

Red Rock! Red Rock!

Red Rock, Wellington, New ZealandWhy is the rock red? Perhaps there is a story behind these blood colour rocks! I would use my imagination.

When I saw the signboard above, I was a bit confused. I was thinking: “hmm… Should I take care of the seals or take care of myself?” >.<

Seals are lazy! The seals are very near to me and I feel that I can touch them easily. But I was told not to get too close to the seals as it is unsafe. So I would not disturb them.

Overall I think the coastal walk is a good experience. The scenery is nice and I am able to see the cute seals in such a close distance. Some part of the walk is not easy, so must wear proper shoes!
