Things to do in Wellington

Road Trip with my old car

Monday is a public holiday in New Zealand. I really wanted a break from my stressful work, so I decided to go for a short trip. I drove to Castlepoint with my very old car. It takes about 2 hours+ to drive from my flat to Casltepoint.

The total distance is 300km++!! (return trip) This is a big challenge for me, because I have never driven my car for more than 1 hour at a time. Furthermore, I heard that the road is very windy along the way. What if my old car breaks down in the half way? What if I am not familiar to drive on the windy road? What if I get too tired along the way?

Well, it is pointless to scare so much. JUST DO IT. 🙂

As expected, I stopped in many places along the way. And I realised that, this is part of the fun.

I love to see sheep. New Zealand is a country of sheep. I stopped at the middle of rural place, with no reasons, just because I wanted to say hello to the sheep.

I have also stopped at a few towns on the half way. Greytown is one of them. It is a simple town.

Henley Lake is a beautiful recreation park located at the edge of Masterton. It is in very convenient location, and you definitely will not miss it when you are leaving Masterton to Castlepoint. The lake is very blue. There are many ducks. I am surprised that there is such a beautiful lake in Wellington.

The information centre in Featherston is lovely. This is the most ‘residential’ information centre that I have ever seen! If there is no signboard, I would have thought that it is just another house. I saw the railway on the road. I wish to have a photo taken with my back there. If I am travelling with someone next time I will do so!

I was recommended by my colleague to visit Parkvale Mushroom in Carterton. I like mushroom. My office sells mushroom on every Friday morning, but it is usually sold out before 9am. So I always try to wake up early on Friday to buy them! I bought half a kilogram of mushroom at Parkvalue Mushroom. It is my yummy dinner~~ 🙂

It was 2 hours+ driving distance but eventually I took 5 hours. I love a relaxing trip with no constraint. I like the feeling of enjoying a road trip with a car. Blue sky, green field and lovely sheep… the sense of freedom is just amazing. Although I am wishing for a companion very much during the journey, it is not a bad idea to travel alone. I have more freedom and I can do whatever I want during the trip.

Since I have taken my first step to drive on long distance, there will be second time, third time and many more times to come. It’s time to plan for my next journey and get prepared. 🙂
