Wellington Farm (Woodhigh Forest Farm), New Zealand
One of the best experiences in New Zealand is staying in a farm – a place where you can enjoy “true” New Zealand with the green and natural scenery as well as playing with animals. Exploring farm activities is fun and exciting; lying down or talking with animals is relaxing. Unfortunately there are not many farmstays available in Wellington. The nearest farm that I could find in Wellington is Woodhigh Forest Farm.
Woodhigh Forest Farm is a farm located near to Upper Hutt, which takes about 30 minute to drive from Wellington city. If you are staying in Wellington and unable to go too far away, it is a good idea to visit this place where you can escape from busy city and experience farm life.
It costs NZD$90 per person for one night stay. I believe the price will change according to the number of people, as they usually only host one family at a time. My mother and I are the only two people staying in this weekend, and we have two luxurious big rooms!
We are very lucky because it is a very sunny day. My mother and I take a ride on the lawn mower. I am now a happy farm girl! 🙂
The hosts, Peter and Linda are very friendly and hospitable. They love chatting. Linda is a good cook and I enjoyed delicious meals here.
We have the opportunity to shoot with a real gun. However my mother doesn’t want to shoot so I shoot for her as well. I have to be careful because the gun can kill people! Below are our photos and my shooting result:
Riding a quad bike is cool and fun!
At first I try on a kid’s quad bike, after I have familiarised then I ride on adult’s quad bike.
Now, this time is a serious one. Am I cool or not?
It is a bit dangerous, so we can’t go too far away and I was just training in a small area. There was once I press accelerator wrongly when it was going downhill, and it goes very fast. I was very scared; luckily there was no hindrance in front of me. Nevertheless, the experience is really fun and I will definitely do it again. 🙂

I have a few ‘first time’ here. This is my first time to stay in a farm, ride on lawn mower, ride on quad bike, and shoot with a real gun. But I didn’t realise that most of the activities are a bit too adventurous for my mom, so I feel sorry. Luckily the activity on second day is easy – feeding sheeps.
I have never seen such a fat sheep before! They are super fat and big, and the most importantly, they are not afraid of human. I can touch and feed them as I like.

This is exactly the kind of life that I am dreaming – living quietly and peacefully with someone I love in a beautiful farm. We can feed animals, plant trees, walk in the forest, and probably sometimes go for a horse riding or just sleeping on the grass. This is such a free and laid back lifestyle isn’t it? 🙂
