I spent 10 days in Sydney with Ben over 2 trips in mid-November and mid-December respectively. Ben was busy for conferences so I was mainly on my own. Though I have visited Sydney before, this is the first time that I stayed in the CBD and Kirribilli. It allows me to get a different feel for Sydney.
Haymarket is a great area. We stayed in Chinatown in Haymarket and never ran out of choices for food. The public transport is convenient and there is also a Friday night market here. Paddy’s market (shopping place) is just around the corner. I would like to stay here again in the future.
I love the purple jacaranda trees as they are so beautiful! There are many jacaranda trees in Sydney during the peak season from mid-October to end of November. One of the most popular places to see them is Jacaranda Street (McDougall Street) in Kirribilli. I regretted not visiting Jacaranda Street in November, as the trees were mostly gone when I visited in December.
I like Celsius Coffee Co., a small café in Kirribilli with beautiful sea views. The café is quite popular and I had to queue for the window seat even it was not breakfast/lunch hour. But it was worth the wait, the waffle was rich and yummy.
On 14 December 2019, Sydney light rail finally opened to the public… (after delayed by a few years and an overblown budget a few times over). We were lucky to be able to witness this historical moment and also took a free ride. 😉
In a nutshell…
I think I have finally seen the ‘busy’ side of Sydney – no wonder they said Sydney is similar to Auckland while Melbourne is similar to Wellington.
It is nice to travel to Sydney as I love the food, especially in Haymarket. Kirribilli is a nice place to relax and enjoy the magnificent view of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
