The tulip festival at Tesselaar Flower Farm is open from Sept 10 to Oct 9. I have been looking forward to this event for a few weeks as I am a big lover of tulips so we cannot miss this yearly event.
It takes about an hour to drive (one way) from Melbourne. The entrance ticket costs $32 per adult. We only bought the ticket when we arrived here although we can also buy it online.
We came on a perfect sunny day. There are a few fields of colourful tulips and they are really beautiful. This is a very romantic place which is suitable for lovers and families.
I have not seen black (dark purple) tulips before so this is very unique, but I still prefer to see the more colourful tulips.
Ben visited here before in early Sept, but the flowers did not fully bloom at that time. Even though the event starts from mid-Sept to Oct, we think the best time to visit is around late-Sept to early-Oct.
But this place is not just about flowers – there are some play areas for children. There is also live music on stage and a few other events. We did not participate in any of them as it was too crowded.
This is a very nice place for a picnic. Next time we should bring a picnic mat and enjoy a good meal here with the beautiful flowers. 🙂
There are a lot of food stalls here, the only downside is that it was very crowded on the weekend.
We bought baked potato and fish bites and queued for around 15-20 minutes. It was very delicious though I felt a bit thirsty – but I did not want to queue another 20 minutes to buy a drink.

I came across this tulip festival from the Facebook advertisement (which is always very effective on me). This reminds us of our good memories at Keukenhof in Holland. The next event at this place is Ka Bloom from March 25 to April 23, 2023.
Hope we can visit the tulip festival every year 😉
