It is a working day (Friday) as per usual. I had a lunch with my colleague and we enjoyed chit-chatting with each other. Everything goes well and I thought it is just another normal day for us.
We talked about snowing, as I have never seen snowing before. We also talked about Lake Tekapo which is a romantic place to take wedding photos. We have been there in the summer and we really love the place. Lake Tekapo should be snowing at the moment. All of a sudden – we decided to travel to Lake Tekapo, departing tonight!!
Once I get back to the office, I did a quick research about the trip and book everything including flight tickets, bus tickets and accommodation. After we finished work and reached home, we took shower and packed things immediately – done everything in less than an hour. We decided to stay overnight in Christchurch Airport and then we will take bus to Lake Tekapo in the next day.
When we reached Christchurch Airport, we realised that the airport is very quiet and all the shops were closed. We doubted if we are allowed to stay overnight here. We start to panic! It is unsafe if we are the only two gals staying here. We kept thinking if we should take taxi to the nearest hotel, but it is so dark and cold outside of the airport! What should we do now!?
We seek the help from the airport staff, and then we discover that there is a Lounge in Christchurch Airport –a place to rest overnight and costs only $5. One of the requirements of staying here is that you must provide proof of leaving the airport before 8am. It is very lucky that I book the bus ticket departing at 7.30am in the next day, so we are qualified to stay here. 🙂
The lounge is uncomfortable, and we can hardly fall asleep here. Anyway we are very grateful that we can at least stay in a warm place!
I have a friend living in Christchurch. At night my friend sent a phone message to me asking what I am doing today. I replied I am sleeping in the Christchurch Airport.
“Are you sure you are in the Christchurch Airport?”
“Very sure.”
I think this is funny as he must be very shocked, so I couldn’t stop laughing. Then we met up for a drink nearby the airport. Who expects that we travel few hundred miles all of a sudden just because we feel like doing so?
This is a very impulsive trip. Everything is decided spontaneously. I like this kind of feeling – If you want to do something, why not do it now!? One of the luckiest things in the world is having a friend who willing to do crazy stuffs with you together.
