Our Life in Australia

U-pick Strawberry at Sunny Ridge Farm

We always wanted to pick strawberries as it was one of our favourite activities in New Zealand. As we finally bought a car, we can finally explore farms in Melbourne. Now it is the peak season for fruit picking, and for us to enjoy the fresh and sweet strawberries.

One of the things that is different from New Zealand – it is called U-pick in Australia, while it is called pick your own (PYO) fruit in New Zealand. So I was a little bit confused!

We chose Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm in Mornington Peninsula because it is nearer to our home and has many good reviews online. It takes about 1 hour (one way) to drive to their farm which is not too bad. There are many u-pick farms for a variety of fruits along the way in Mornington Peninsula.

Information
Opening hour: 9am to 4.30pm everyday
U-pick season: November to April
Price: $10 per adult (500g punnet)

As the GPS shows that it is usually very crowded between 12 and 3.30pm, we left home early and reached the farm just before 11.30am. It was easy to find a parking and still quiet then.

After 12pm, it became very crowded. After we finished picking, we had a farm-made strawberry ice cream and sorbet at the café.

Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm is very commercialised. There is even an automated pre-recorded message on the phone when we called for information. It is not a bad thing because we can pick strawberries, relax at the café and look around the souvenir shop. The strawberries are very yummy. We like this farm and will visit again. 🍓🍓
