Our memories in the heart of Kuala Lumpur

This is my second trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2023. I spent three weeks visiting my family while Ben stayed for a week. This post revolves around the time I spent with Ben in the city centre of KL.

We worked in KL for the first few days while staying at Ben’s work accommodation. After officially being on leave, we relocated to Stay Residence.

Our stay at Star Residence

Staying at Star Residence for 4 nights cost RM1168 (about AU$380) which is not bad. Despite having the option to stay with my family, we chose to immerse ourselves in the heart of KL. The added advantage was its convenient location in KL, just a short walk away from Suria KLCC shopping mall.

We liked the spacious and cozy room. I particularly enjoyed lounging in the comfortable sofa chair by the window, taking in the city view. There is also an infinity pool and a rooftop bar offering a delightful KLCC panorama. Unfortunately, swimming wasn’t feasible for me that day, and also there was no air conditioning on the final day as it ran out of gas – this was quite inconvenient given the hot weather in KL.

Overall it was a pleasant stay. Ben mentioned he wouldn’t mind to staying here again.

One of our key activities in KL is to do a cafe hopping around the popular attractions at Petaling Street. We visited Leaf & Co, Flaah and Merchant Lane cafes, enjoying a leisurely experience. We tried very different and interesting food such as nasi lemak burger and shakshuka with mantou. I especially appreciated the greenery-themed decor at Merchant Lane cafe.

Because of the hot climate in KL, we prefer exploring shopping malls to relish the air conditioning. On this trip, I visited KLCC, Mid Valley, Lalaport, Pavilion, and TRX Exchange. Many malls were decorated with Christmas themes in December, creating a lovely atmosphere. However, the drawback is the considerable crowds in the malls. In addition, the traffic condition in KL has gotten worse.

I didn’t engage in many activities on this trip, focusing instead on spending quality time with my family, especially my mom. Hopefully, my next visit to KL won’t be too far in the future!
